THE BANYAN
Nestled in the serene neighborhood of Bopal–Ambli, this residence of understated luxury offers a tranquil retreat from the rhythm of city life. Inspired by the Banyan tree — a symbol of strength and longevity in the Indian subcontinent — the design draws from its expansive canopy and intricate network of branches, translating into interlocking spaces and layered spatial experiences. Guided by a matrix of functionality and aesthetics, the planning allows spaces to connect organically while balancing privacy and openness.
Conceived at a time when podium landscapes were still emerging in residential design, the project was among the early developments to adopt this approach. The podium is articulated as a cascading sequence of stepped terraces that soften the architectural mass while creating layered outdoor spaces. Interwoven with greenery and seating pockets, these terraces unfold as an elevated garden offering shaded areas for relaxation.
Architecturally, the elevation is conceived as a three-dimensional composition of contemporary abstract art set against the sky. Bold vertical forms are softened by textured materials and warm tones, while ribbons of crumpled brass in rust-gold hues weave across the façade, contrasting with the otherwise clean and modern geometry. Accents of ochre-toned stone further enrich the composition, adding warmth and depth.
Crafted for a discerning community, the development comprises two exclusive towers housing select eighteen residences, ensuring privacy and a boutique living experience. Each duplex apartment features expansive living areas, five bedrooms with walk-in wardrobes, decks connecting formal and informal living spaces, and an internal elevator for seamless movement. Dedicated resident elevators, service elevators, and carefully planned service zones enhance comfort and functionality.
The lifestyle experience extends beyond the residences into a curated range of wellness and leisure amenities, including a reflexology walk, spa with hydro-massage jets, fitness center, games room, cabana, and barbecue terrace. Water features such as a cascading water wall, reflection pool, and temperature-controlled swimming pool contribute to a restorative environment designed for relaxation and rejuvenation.
The artwork in the foyer functions both as a visual focal point and a guiding element. Inspired by the experience of walking beneath the intricate network of stilt roots reaching toward the ground, it translates that layered movement into a sculptural design statement.
