HOUSE BY THE OXBOW LAKE
A house shaped by water, where architecture frames privacy, embraces the landscape, and celebrates the stillness of the oxbow lake. House at the Oxbow Lake is envisioned as a contemporary weekend retreat that emerges from interconnected water systems and seasonal challenges of overflow and congestion. Rather than resisting these conditions, the design absorbs them into its planning framework, transforming hydrological constraints into spatial opportunities. The formation of the oxbow lake becomes both an ecological strategy and a defining visual anchor for the project.
The planning evolved through a careful study of orientation, views, and movement, allowing the built form and landscape to work as a cohesive system. The landscape is structured into layered zones of gathering lawns, transitional greens, and cultivated farmland, creating natural balance while enhancing spatial experience. Native plantations, natural drainage strategies, and minimal site intervention ensure long-term sustainability, allowing the environment to actively support and sustain the architecture.
The built form is composed of fragmented volumes that balance openness with privacy, ensuring that private spaces remain visually protected even as living areas extend outward into decks and open sit-outs. The infinity pool becomes the central architectural anchor, framed by open lawns and horizon views, amplifying its presence as the experiential heart of the project.
Together, the architecture, landscape, and water exist in quiet harmony—creating a timeless retreat where built form does not dominate nature, but belongs to it.
